I’m so glad you’re better. I’ve wondered the same thing; what DO stay-at-home parents do when their children are sick?

I think you’re onto something with that business idea… I would totally pay to have a list of families that are willing to accept a pair of pre-schoolers in a pinch, and will accept payment. I hate asking my neighbours because they’d never let me pay, and only one really takes advantage of my sitting services.

The days when I’m not feeling well is when Disney movies get put on the DVD, and low-key activities are planned, and I just lay on the couch. On a couple of occassions I’ve had to call Scott home (even from some imp. mtgs) to take over, and yes, he has had to give me a “sick day.” After a day(or 2) of recovery, I do hand-over parenting duty to him when he comes home from work so I can continue recuperating. I’ve been diagnosed with pnumonia twice in the last 2 years, so I feel your pain. Get better soon!

Glad you’re feeling better. I’ve been lucky that the times I’ve been sick, it’s been the weekend and Tom is home. I’ve been able to make it through the Friday before the weekend, but then Tom’s home for the weekend and I would be down for the count. I’m not really sure how we would handle it if I got sick during the week. I guess the universe has been looking out for me!

When I’m too sick to take care of the girls, my husband takes a sick day and/or works from home since he has that option. Caring for a sick family member is covered by most sick leave policies so I think it is a legitimate use of sick leave. We don’t really have another option. Both sets of grandparents are 10-12 hour drive away so falling back on family isn’t really an option.

The times when I’m sick are the times I’m most painfully aware of how far away I am from my family. If I was in Chicago, I’d have a long list of people to call and ask for help. Here, though there are theoretically friends to call, they all have their own kids and schedules. Alas…
