Itsy Bida
I love to sing. Not that I’m a particularly good singer, but I love to sing nonetheless. I love to listen to music turned up so loud that it drowns out my voice, even when I’m belting it out like I’m planning to be the next American Idol. And so, I got really, really excited when Buba and Tiny started to show an interest in music.
I guess it really started almost a year ago. That’s when they started playing with toys that play music when certain buttons are pressed. But it’s only recently that I’ve noticed that they will deliberately push certain buttons to hear a specific song. They clearly have favorites now. And their current top three favorites are (drum roll, please…) ABCs, Elmo’s Song, and The Itsy Bitsy Spider.
Tiny and Buba don’t actually sing any of their favorite songs yet, but Tiny has tried a couple of times (A, B, C, D, mmm, mmmm, mmmmmm…. and Itsy Bida up and downaspout). They do, however, request that I sing these songs many, many times throughout the day. And while I know, even before I begin, that they will shout, “‘Gain! ‘Gain!” the second I stop singing, nine times out of ten, I am willing to indulge them. Because I’ve figured it out… these songs are magic!
In the time it takes me to sing the ABCs, I can wash a moderately messy face and two hands after a meal. Singing Elmo’s Song three times buys me just enough time to change a dirty diaper. And there is no crying or fussing if I sing The Itsy Bisty Spider while brushing their teeth.
I can’t wait for the days when they start joining in with me. I can tell Tiny really wants to, but she still trying to figure out how. Her day will come. And soon, I think.
Michael’s not really talking so no singing, but he has been moving his arms to the music and pretty much in time. I can’t wait for him to sing. All 3 kids love to play with the musical toys. I was kind of a music geek in school and like you I love to sing even though I have a horrible voice and my husband loves music and plays the guitar. Music should be fun with the 3!
Cute! My daughters are better lyricists than I ever was, and watching them make up their own songs is probably on my top 10 list of motherhood perks. Right now, Grandma is teaching them the basics of music literacy, and I hear that they can now confidently pick out all the As on the piano.
I was so excited when Rebecca started singing along or singing on her own. I guess it’s been several months now? Can’t remember exactly when, but I love it. Now, she sings all the time. Usually Twinkle Twinkle, but it could really be anything. And she’s so proud of herself!
